External wall insulation is a product developed to improve the thermal performance of buildings by the application of an insulating layer and a decorative weatherproof finish to the external wall surfaces of a building.
The insulating layer can be phenolic, fibre, or polystyrene.
In a solid wall construction, the heat loss through uninsulated walls increases to 45% (25% through uninsulated cavity wall).
By insulating the walls externally, it takes your home longer to warm up and longer to cool down, giving a more balanced and constant temperature in your home.
The reason for this is the thermal mass (your walls) lying inside the insulation acts as a storage heater.
